For any student interested in learning to sail or race sailboats, in high school or college, Westminster has a new opportunity for you:
The Westminster Sailing Team Experience
What: An orientation, on water sail, and information session about sailboat racing with the Westminster Sailing Team, hosted by the Coconut Grove Sailing Club
When: Monday, November 11th 2024
Where: Coconut Grove Sailing Club – 2990 S Bayshore Dr, Miami, FL 33133
Schedule:
3:30 pm Introduction to Coaches and Sailing Team Members
On land boat orientation/lesson and Life Jacket fitting
Pair new crew with experience Sailing Team members
4:00 pm On the bay sailing experience
Basic sail trim, body positioning and navigate a racecourse
Sailors experience a mock race
All participants get a chance to sail
5:30 pm Wrap up meeting
Learn how to get more experience at CGSC
Discuss possible opportunities to tryout for the team in the future
5:45 pm Parent pick up time
(No one has requested a ride, so we will see everyone there!)
Westminster is looking to grow our sailing team and has some excellent opportunities for individuals, or groups of friends to start, and to progress their sailing abilities in our schools’ exciting 420 doublehanded boats.
Come learn about the sailing team and our new relationship with, and our new team home at the Coconut Grove Sailing Club (CGSC) where they offer world class 420, and ILCA – Laser coaching and training.
The CGSC has seasonal and camp programs that are excellent opportunities for individuals, or groups of friends to start and progress their sailing abilities in exciting 420 and lLCA (Laser) boats. Additionally, we have identified a number of excellent private instructors that can teach you 420 or ILCA (Laser) racing fast, and accelerate your path to racing competitively. Westminster values all these programs and sailboat racing experiences, and our coaches will consider the completion of any of these programs or lessons when selecting varsity team members for upcoming regattas and seasons.
