Seventy-five Green Fleet Opti’s. South Florida winter breeze. Tight mark roundings. Big fleet chaos. Jensen Beach gave our future Westminster sailors exactly what they need – a day of action packed pressure that forces you to learn and grow fast with friends and competitors!

Patrick Leads the Charge
Patrick Buraglia finished 29th of 75 in a stacked fleet. He capsized. He missed a mark. Then he reset, stayed calm, and delivered his best races at the end. Max Verstappen, the dominant Formula 1 world champion, tells young racers: “Do not be afraid of mistakes. They are shortcuts to better instincts.” Patrick proved that he can learn quickly, adapt fast and is on a path to greatness if he keeps an open mind, listens and learns fast, and trusts himself and instincts on the racecourse.
All the Developing Warriors
Four more sailors expected to join the Westminster team in the future also stepped into big fleet racing with serious grit over the weekend:
- 38th – Rose Burrows
- 45th – Austin Gonzalez
- 47th – Richard Burrows
- 63rd – Liam Buraglia
All these sailors experienced everything Green Fleet is famous for. Crowded starts. Boats stacked on laylines. Sudden shifts. Lanes that vanish when you blink. And they learned Verstappen’s most important lesson: “Do not overthink, just try to go fast.”
What They Learned
Clean starts make life easier. Upwind is unforgiving if you are not on the wind and sailing towards the mark. A mistake doesn’t end the race unless you let it. And confidence matters as much as technique. Verstappen tells young racers: “Believe in yourself, even when it gets tough.” That’s the heart of early sailing, and these sailors all showed up, believe in themselves and are excited for more!
The Next Step
No podium needed to make an impression. They needed a challenging fleet, real pressure, and the chance to figure things out. They got it all and left more motivated than when they arrived.
The next generation of Westminster Sailing is already showing the mindset that leads to long-term success. Next stop: Orange Bowl, where they’ll test themselves, and keep shaping the sailors they will become. We are cheering for you!
